J’ne suis pas Charlie, je suis égalité!

leave a comment »

As millions of others I’ve been glued to the news channels since the attack on Charlie Hebdo first was broadcast.

While I feel for the families of the dead and condemn any use of violence in the strongest terms, I cannot help but feel extremely concerned for the future of our (worldwide) society and the path it is taking and the loss of equality and freedom of speech.

The hypocrisy shown by all sides is, in my opinion, incredible and leading us straight back to the dark ages. While each side is pointing fingers at the other calling them racist, fascists and claim they ridicule their values, they do the exact same themselves when it comes to who or whatever they don’t (can’t or won’t) understand.

And it is not just in France, but all over the world. France just showed it quite plainly by banning comedians for statements which questions their values, while insisting that they have the right to discriminate and ridicule even those they pointed their fingers at.

How can I expect to be respected when I don’t show any respect for the ones I asked to respect me?

Do not misunderstand me, I am not taking any side. I find either equally appalling and disrespectful. Why do I have to make fun of others for their believes or culture in first place? Who am I to put myself above others and belittle their way of life and / or thinking? Is it really that hard to agree that we disagree and that we DO have different values and that neither is better or worse than the other?

And all the while, the Devil is patting Hitler on the shoulder as they watch us decimate one another, saying: “Aye, I couldn’t’ve done it better meself, friend.” And Hitler rubs hands, while smoking a cigar, replying: “I love it when a plan comes together.”

Note to Self – An everyday Guide

A list of personal fails of mine, updated as soon as they occur (if I am still able to post them afterwards..).

Note to Self #1:

Don’t keep your fingers in between the door and door frame when attempting to close the door.
Result if you don’t follow that advice: Very painful!

Another slow Day

by Sanshiru

Today was another long and boring day. At work I received my first written warning for being sick too often last year (like you can control it, specially when people are coughing and sneezing all around you cause they don’t dare to stay at home with their colds, since they don’t get paid and in addition just get in trouble for being off work).

I feel pretty confident that I will do better this year, since for some reason I feel stronger than before. Mentally and physically. When I came home I continued readjusting my newly reinstalled system and finally got to make a backup partition on my external drive. Now I just need to make a windows partition on the internal drive to keep it from getting too fragmented by all my downloads and I need to install the backup tool on my external HDD’s backup partition so I can actually reinstall the Windows image on my internal drive in case I have to.

When I called my husband on his cell phone earlier, using Skype, I was able to hear him just fine, but for some reason he wasn’t able to understand me properly. He said my voice was breaking off a lot and sometimes it would slow down and then suddenly speed up, like it was trying to catch up again. Unfortunately I have no other program to call his cell with, so I can’t figure out whether it was my internet connection being used up by my roomies again, or if it was Skype being messed up. Websites I was able to load fine, so I don’t know at the moment. I guess I have to wait till the weekend when he got more than just his lunch break to talk to me.

Other than that nothing happened. I was so tired since I am still not able to sleep for more than 5 hours, that I didn’t even manage to continue my Tibet & Buddhism post. :S

A too short Day

leave a comment »

Today started out ok, even though it was hard for me to get out of bed due to ongoing insomnia, and since there was a bank holiday there was no bus service, so I had to spend about 20 British Pounds on going to and back from work. Work itself was a little bit more busy than in between the holidays, but still there was no stress luckily. So I decided to write a little article about Tibet and Buddhism, but didn’t manage to finish it and probably won’t until tomorrow at work.

The evening I spent trying to reinstall my UMTS dongle, since for some reason it kept crashing when I started the application, but when it was finally time to call my hubby during his lunch break I gave up and just used the slow as hell land line connection (and once again: thanks room mates for leeching all day long so I don’t even have enough bandwidth to have a decent phone call using voip).

After that I intended to reinstall windows, backing up all the relevant data before hand, but then I turned out to be just too tired, so I only backed up (and still doing so at the moment) my files and programs. It turned out to be more of a hassle than I though cause I tend not to clean up and sort things after downloading them =_= ..
Specially all the chat logs, emails, bookmarks and profiles are a hassle to back up.. There is just too many of them and each program stores them in a different place =_=” Luckily I found a program to back up all my emails including the Thunderbird profiles and also the FireFox profile and bookmarks. The rest I guess I have to do manually and hope that I don’t forget half of them, like I usually do =_=

So in the end I must note down: The day just didn’t have enough hours for me to get everything done.
Of course my tiredness plays a big role in that since I am planning on going to bed in less than 1 hour (hopefully after having backed up everything).

Winter, Winter and even more Winter

leave a comment »

1 1/2 years ago I moved to Scotland, UK, being told that winters are very mild there, rarely any snow and seldom temperatures below 0°C (32°F). Looking forward to non-frozen streets, ears, nose and all other body parts that tend to freeze in cold weather, I was badly disappointed when winter 2008/09 started.

by Andy Yarr

It was cold and soon it started to snow. To my surprise, they didn’t seem to care to free the pedestrian walks and only focused on the streets. Walking soon turned out to be more dangerous than going by car or bus, since the snow melted away and then got frozen by the Siberian temperatures. Back then everyone was talking about an exceptional winter which would occur only once every 20 years. But now it’s 2009/10 and we have the same again. Even worse.

For weeks now the snow is on the streets, melts, turns to ice and then it snows again, repeating the cycle. Before the New Year’s Eve the pedestrian walks started to clear up a little, leaving me in hope that today the ice would have been completely melted away finally.
To my surprise tough, when I stepped outside the house this morning, the ice was still there, just like before and in addition to it there was frost all over the walks.

At work one of my co-workers told me that even in his home town Largs, which is directly at the ocean, the streets are frozen, what usually never happens due to the warmer climate there. This morning we had temperatures of -13°C (8.6°F). Friends told me that it’s not any better on Continental Europe, with temperatures of -20°C (-4°F) in Germany. It seems like this winter is even worse than the one last year, lasting longer with lower temperatures and way more snow, leaving everyone to wonder when it will stop.

The different Love Letter

leave a comment »

– A love letter from my husband to me –

I love you from the very depths of my soul. A love so deep, that pulls you in…like a twister…a big twister of love!
A love with the force of a hurricane and more powerful than ten Supermans combined and maybe Spiderman too.
A love that goes beyond the universe, maybe even past the parallel universes that co-exist within ours.
A love that is so pure, that a virgin who is dressed in pure white would look like a prostitute with STDs when compared to us.
A love that hits you harder than a train colliding into a nuclear explosion with a fireworks factory setting off in the middle.
A love more exciting than a rollercoaster ride while watching a dare devil attempt to jump through a ring of fire.
A love so sweet that a cake stuffed with brownies stuffed with cookies stuffed with ice cream would be tasteless compared to us.
In conclusion, I love you a lot.

My beloved husband just posted this on twitter while we were phoning.. and once more I am wondering what is going on in that man’s mind.. but wait.. do I wanna know? =_=”
In any case: I love you too hunny, even though you’re a big weirdo! xP
